Molecular and Cellular Basis of Autoimmunity and Inflammation

Research Group of Stephan Blüml

We analyze the mechanisms leading to joint inflammation and subsequently joint destruction, with an emphasis on the contribution of myeloid cells in that process.

Research Group of Michael Bonelli

We want to understand the mechanisms required for cell stability and identity in T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Research Group of Silvia Hayer

Inflammatory joint damage & bone biology

We study pathomechanisms of inflammation-mediated joint damage and systemic bone loss.

Research Group of Thomas Karonitsch

Fibroblast pathology in rheumatic diseases

Our group aims to unfold the mechanisms that drive FLS activation in inflammatory joint diseases. We focus on inflammatory and metabolic pathways (e.g. mTOR pathway) that are critical for the inflammatory response in FLS.
