17.03.2025 - Our department mourns the loss of Klaus Machold
It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to Klaus Machold, an extraordinary person, an outstanding doctor, mentor, colleague and friend. His tireless commitment, his passion for rheumatology and his profound expertise have inspired and shaped several generations of doctors.
Klaus was far more than a doctor - he was a person who met everyone with an alert mind, a sharp intellect and, above all, a big heart. His ability to listen and find the right words was unique. He not only imparted medical knowledge to us, but above all exemplified what it means to go through life with humanity, empathy and clarity.
Wherever Klaus appeared, things became brighter. His presence always guaranteed entertainment and for many of us it conveyed a lightness of being that was as enviable as it was desirable. His humor was all too often spot on. For many of us, however, he was also a confidant, someone you knew that nothing could go wrong with him at your side. His deep understanding of medicine was always combined with a keen sense for people. However, he could also be strict when necessary, but always with the aim of achieving the best for his patients - and for us, who were able to learn from him.
Klaus gave our department a lively face - characterized by curiosity, drive, critical thinking and an unwavering attitude. He was courageous when it came to standing up for his convictions and inspired us to do the same. Klaus was a man who knew that medicine is not just science, but also art, intuition and, above all, humanity. His work leaves a deep, indelible mark on each and every one of us, but also on the national and international rheumatology community.
Dear Klaus, we are deeply grateful for the time we spent together - for your wisdom, your advice, your laughter and the countless memories we were able to share with you: you will always remain a part of us!
Daniel Aletaha, on behalf of the entire Clinical Department of Rheumatology
