Station 20K

The ward has one isolation room, 6 three-bed rooms and 4 two-bed rooms. Our nursing team comprises 21 qualified nurses and nursing assistants, the medical team is led by 2-3 senior physicians.

Inpatient care and medical treatment are reserved for severe and/or life-threatening courses of inflammatory systemic diseases. Many patients with inflammatory systemic diseases are prone to infections or are treated with immunosuppressive medication, which can make infections more severe. Some of these patients therefore also need to be monitored and/or treated as inpatients. In addition, patients with other (non-rheumatological) internal diseases are admitted via the so-called ‘contingent bed system’ from the University Department of Emergency Medicine. This means that patients with cancer, heart, lung, metabolic, kidney or intestinal diseases are also treated on our ward. As many rheumatic diseases can also affect these other organs, the nursing staff and doctors on our ward are particularly suited to diagnosing and treating such ‘non-specialist’ problems. Furthermore, pre- or post-operative care on the ward may be necessary, particularly in the case of invasive diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

The ward is also used for training nursing staff and doctors. Under the guidance of an experienced team (qualified nurses and medical specialists), they can learn the skills required for effective and safe diagnosis and treatment.
