Working Group Clinical Databases and Biobanks

Inflammatory rheumatic diseases are based on a chronic disease process that subsequently leads to increased morbidity and mortality, impaired physical function and reduced quality of life. Patients are systematically examined at every patient contact and this clinical examination, laboratory values, patient questionnaires etc. have been systematically recorded in a database since 2000. This enables us to analyse disease progression and treatment response in detail over a long observation period.

Our biobank also collects blood and tissue samples from our patients, which can be linked to the clinical databases. Together, clinical databases and biobanks can make a significant contribution to deciphering the causes, mechanisms and influencing factors of diseases, diagnosing them more precisely and reliably and treating them more effectively.
