According to the five main research areas of our department in the field of
- inflammatory bowel diseases,
- hepatology
- endoscopy,
- psychosomatics and
- gastroentrological intensive care
the research activity of our Division is dedicated to these 5 sub-areas of epidemiology, clinical research and disease- or patient-oriented basic research. Ideally, basic research and clinical research in the respective subfields complement each other in the sense of a translational research approach with mutual stimulation (cross fertilization).
The pursuit of both research directions within one Division or working group has the fundamental advantage of being able to test new concepts quickly and, if necessary, to implement them, thus generating a more rapid increase in knowledge.
