Hepatocellular carcinoma and complications

Our research group consists of a clinical area and a research laboratory.

The goal of the clinical research area is to contribute to the development of new therapeutic options for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). For this reason, we are the center of several international multicenter phase I - IV trials testing new drugs or new therapeutic strategies for different HCC tumor stages. Since not all available therapeutic options are equally useful for all patients, we are also concerned with the question of predictability of therapeutic response. In these "biomarker" studies we closely cooperate with colleagues from radiology, (transplant) surgery, (molecular) pathology, the Cancer Research Center Borschkegasse, the renowned Center of Molecular Medicine (CEMM) and of course our own research laboratory. Further research foci of our laboratory are mechanisms of HCC development, with special emphasis on oxidative stress and oxygen radicals.
