The Hans Popper Laboratory for Molecular Hepatology at the Medical University of Vienna conducts patient-oriented basic research in the spirit of its namesake.
The scientific work focuses on the investigation of the molecular mechanisms of cholestatic and metabolic liver diseases (fatty liver), liver fibrosis, portal hypertension and hepatocellular carcinoma, with the aim of developing new prognostic markers and forms of therapy. To this end, experts from a wide variety of fields work together in the Popper Lab: Cancer specialists, experts in portal hypertension, lipid metabolism or bile secretion.
